HDR Images
High Dynamic Range (HDR) images are called for when the subject brightness range exceeds the capture abilities of the camera. As many as nine different exposures of the subject are made without moving the camera and the resultant images are combined into one. HDR processing allows for a whole new world of photographic expression. To handle extremely wide brightness ranges, 13 stops and more, the files are converted to 32 bits and combined using a program produced by Industrial Light and Magic called Photomatix. Photoshop also contains an HDR feature but it is more difficult to achieve acceptable results.
